YOUR EMOTIONS DON’T HAVE TO FEEL SO OVERWHELMING.
oNLINE THERAPY across ontario FOR WOMEN WHO FEEL emotionally overwhelmed, SHUT DOWN, OR DISCONNECTED FROM WHAT THEY FEEL.
Sometimes you feel everything all at once. Other times, you shut down and feel nothing at all.
One moment, your feelings take over. The next, you go numb, disconnect, or struggle to find words for what is happening inside.
You might criticize yourself for being too sensitive, too reactive, or unable to move past things. Or you may wonder why you can't access your emotions at all.
There’s also a more hidden fear that’s getting harder to ignore:
What if there’s something wrong with me?
MAYBE YOU…
Hold everything in until something small pushes you over the edge, then wonder why you reacted so strongly.
Replay an interaction long after it's over, trying to figure out why it affected you so much.
Shut down when things become too intense, even when part of you wants to stay connected.
Struggle to explain what you're feeling, especially when someone asks you in the moment.
Judge yourself afterward, wondering why you couldn't just handle things differently.
Your emotions aren't the problem. We can get curious about what they're trying to tell you.
how i can help:
We’ll make sense of what’s happening underneath the overwhelm.
Using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), we'll slow things down and explore what happens when you become overwhelmed, shut down, or disconnected from what you feel.
Together, we might notice:
What tends to trigger the reaction
What happens emotionally and in your body
What you instinctively do to protect yourself
What may be harder to recognize underneath
The goal isn't to control what you feel. It's to understand your emotional experience so it feels less confusing and easier to navigate.

Common questions about overwhelm, emotions, and getting started.
-
Emotional overwhelm can happen when what you're feeling becomes difficult to understand, tolerate, or respond to. You might feel flooded, reactive, anxious, or unable to stop thinking about something. Or you may have the opposite experience and shut down, go numb, or struggle to know what you're feeling at all.
-
Feeling things intensely doesn't necessarily mean you're too sensitive or overly emotional. Sometimes your reactions become stronger when your nervous system has spent a long time anticipating problems, carrying responsibility, or trying to keep things under control. Therapy can help us understand what is being activated underneath the intensity.
-
Shutting down can be a protective response when something feels like too much. Rather than seeing numbness or disconnection as something wrong with you, we'll get curious about when it happens, what tends to trigger it, and what your system may be trying to protect you from.
-
That’s completely okay. You do not need to arrive with the right words or a clear understanding of what is happening. We’ll begin with what you notice, such as a thought, physical sensation, reaction, or recent experience, and make sense of it together at a pace that feels manageable.
-
We don't have to push into feelings faster than feels manageable. Therapy can move at a pace that helps you stay connected to what you're experiencing without becoming consumed by it.
-
Rather than teaching you to suppress or control your emotions, we'll explore what happens when you become overwhelmed, what your reactions are communicating, and the patterns that keep repeating. Over time, this can help your emotions feel less confusing and easier to navigate.
-
They can overlap, but they're not necessarily the same. Anxiety may show up as worry, anticipation, overthinking, or feeling constantly on edge. Burnout often involves prolonged exhaustion and depletion. Emotional overwhelm can include feeling flooded, reactive, shut down, or disconnected from what you feel. Sometimes more than one is happening at the same time.
